The proceeds from Do Dah Day 2010 will benefit two charities that work with animals, Greater Birmingham Humane Society and Friends of Cats and Dogs Foundation. In addition to the monies donated to these groups, they are also invited to participate in Do Dah Day’s festivities. From walking with adoptable animals in the parade, to representation in Caldwell Park, both groups join the animal lovers who come out to party. Please stop by and say hello to these deserving animal charities.
About the Beneficiaries:
Hundreds of animals have found their forever home at Do Dah Day because of the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS), with 16 animals adopted in 2009 alone. GBHS is Alabama’s oldest humane society, and is best known for adoptions, but also works as a community educator, animal cruelty investigator, and facilitator for disaster preparedness involving animals. GBHS recently started a pet-food pantry, allowing families hit hard by the recession the ability to care for their animals. GBHS also offers low-cost vaccinations and micro-chipping services for the community.

The Friends of Cats and Dogs Foundation (FCDF) is a non-profit and all-volunteer organization serving the Greater Birmingham Area since 1991. Their mission is to stop the pet overpopulation problem and promote the humane treatment of animals. With the proceeds from Do Dah Day, FCDF was able to sponsor free spay/neuter clinics for low-income and under-served populations in Birmingham. In 2009 alone, 80 animals were served, with spay/neutering, rabies vaccinations and miscellaneous veterinary care. The gifts from Do Dah Day have been used to prevent literally thousands of unwanted pet births, saving the community thousands in tax payer expenses.
